Welcome to our new-look weekly newsletter. This is the first one of the new school year and we hope you'll find it useful, as well as being easy to read on any device. It can also be accessed via the Thomas Coram App under Links.
Notices and Reminders
"Always be thankful".1 Thessalonians 5.16
This week our whole school worships have been lead by Mrs Cutler, Father Joe and 6WT. Our value for the next six weeks is Thankfulness. "Count your blessings" is an old saying, but it reminds us to be thankful and not take things for granted. We have been reflecting on how we can express our gratitude and show we are thankful.
Meet the Teacher
In place of our customary Meet the Teacher evening, we have produced a welcome presentation from each year team of teachers. There is also a presentation from Mrs Cutler and Miss Williamson, explaining our priorities for the forthcoming academic year. These can be viewed on our federation YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/castleCEfederation
The online application system has opened for parents and carers of children in Year 6 to apply for a secondary school place for entry in September 2021. All Year 6 parents and carers were sent a copy of the 'Moving on 2021' leaflet this week. The application deadline is 31 October 2020. All the information you need is available at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/admissions.
Year 6 Bikeability
Next week, some of our Year 6 pupils will be taking part in Bikeability training. Those participating will need to wear clothes appropriate for cycling and the weather conditions, for example coats and gloves if the weather is wet or cold. Their school PE kits (joggers or leggings) are suitable. They will also need a correctly fitting cycle helmet.
Teams is our digital education platform. It is an online collaboration tool from Microsoft that is part of their Office365 suite. Visit the Microsoft Teams page under the Learning tab on our website for further information and 'How to' videos.
Year 3 classes
As communicated to parents and carers in our transition materials, our Year 3 pupils are moving to their new class groups from Monday 14 September. The name of their new class teacher can be found in your child's pupil planner. We are extremely pleased with how well the children have settled into our school; they have fed back that they found it reassuring to be in their Swing Gate/Victoria class groups during the first week as it helped them to adjust more quickly.
The Red option for next Tuesday's lunch menu has been changed to BBQ chicken wrap replacing the advertised Southern flavoured chicken wrap. This is due to supplier issues. The Green option remains as published. Each lunch also contains fruit juice and piece of fruit.
Collection and drop off
Government guidance states that 'gathering at the school gates is not allowed'. Therefore, it is very important that if parents or carers arrive earlier than the designated time slot that you do not wait in the drop off area to ensure that everyone is adhering to the social distancing measures. This is especially important in the area around the pupil gate and entrance to the Year 5/6 cordoned off entry point.
Due to the school's drop off and collection arrangements, there is reduced car parking outside the school. Please can we encourage parents and carers to opt for walking or the Park and Stride option rather than park outside the school. We would also ask that you are mindful of those residents who live close to school, especially in the upper part of Swing Gate Lane, and do not park across their drives.

This week at St Peter’s
This weekend we are very excited to welcome Fr Stuart, our new team vicar, with his wife Susie and sons James and Barnaby. We hope they'll be very happy here.
St Peter's has had to change some routines over the summer, but services are back on Sunday mornings at 9.30am. Unfortunately, Sunday Club and Children's Corner aren't open yet, but everyone is more than welcome to come with their own toys and games. To read the special arrangements in place for Sunday mornings please see the details on our website https://www.stpetersberkhamsted.org.uk
