Notices and Reminders

"My peace I give you' John 14.27

Our value for the next four weeks is Peace. This week, our whole school worships have been led by Mrs Cutler with the Year 6 reflective leaders, Father Joe and 6SW. We have been reflecting on 'Peaceful Places' and how it is important to appreciate quietness and have opportunities for stillness and reflection in our everyday busy lives.

Royal Charter
This Sunday, 17 October, marks 282 years since Thomas Coram was granted a Royal Charter by King George II to establish the Foundling Hospital. This was the first purpose built home for children whose mothers were unable to care for them because of poverty or social exclusion. His actions remind us of the sense of responsibility he showed towards the Foundlings.

A reminder that Friday 22 October is an INSET day and the school is closed to children. As it is half term the following week, we hope that everyone uses their time wisely to relax; we look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 1 November.

Visitors to our school
On Friday morning, our Hertfordshire Improvement Partner, Beccy Roberts, was in school for her termly visit. The focus this term was on how reading is taught at Thomas Coram. She visited lessons, met with pupils and heard them read, and also held discussions with staff.

Sports activities
On Tuesday around 180 pupils from across all year groups took part in the Dacorum Schools Sports Network Cross Country event at Ashlyns School, competing against other local schools. All pupils performed extremely well, and were supportive of their peers, displaying good sportsmanship and team spirit. We await the final results.

Parent Consultations
Our autumn term parent consultations will be taking place during the week commencing 1 November. This term they will be held remotely via teams. A letter will shortly follow giving further details of how to book your appointments on-line. The date for Years 3 and 5 is Tuesday 2 November; the date for Years 3 and 6 is Thursday 4 November. If you have any difficultly using the on-line system, please contact the school office.

Lunch Menu
Mrs Cutler and Mr Halls met with the Senior Contract Manager at Herts Catering Ltd this week. Please find a letter, here, from our lunch providers regarding current supply issues. Next Thursday, 21 October, the menu will be pizza and chips (green option) or battered fish and chips (red option) in place of the published menu choices of pasta carbonara or hot dogs. There will be a new menu starting after half term, which will be shared with parents and carers next week.

Secondary Transfer
Hertfordshire Admissions have asked us to remind parents that the deadline for applications for a place in September 2022 is 31 October. They also recommend that you make your application by Friday 22 October, so any queries can be dealt with by Admissions ahead of the deadline of 31 October 2021. Applications can be made here.

Art Competition
Half term is the perfect opportunity to get creative and produce a piece of artwork based on 'The Colour of Nature' to enter into the Countryside Charity's Children's Art Competition.  Entries should be on a piece of A4 paper and can use any materials (computer generated images are not permitted) and should be with Mrs Bruguier by Friday 5 November. Let's get creative and get a winner!

Poppy appeal
We are supporting The Royal British Legion Poppy appeal and merchandise will be available for purchase from the school office from Monday 1 November.

Captains Club
Bookings for November and December will close on Monday 18 October please ensure your booking is made in Wisepay.

Fireworks tickets for sale
Don't forget you can purchase tickets for Berkhamsted Rotary fireworks display this year at the cricket club on Saturday 6 November from the school office. Please pop in and buy some - if bought in advance tickets cost £8 for an adult, £5 (under 16), free for under fives and £22 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children). Thomas Coram receive a donation of £1 for every ticket bought through school.

Christmas Lunch
We are looking forward to celebrating our traditional Christmas lunch on Monday 20 December. If you would like your child(ren) to have Christmas lunch this year, you need to order by Thursday 21 October. Herts Catering Ltd provides the school meal service in the vast majority of Hertfordshire schools, nearly all of whom will have a Christmas dinner within the last week of term; our food order has to be in with them by their deadline to enable them to order from their suppliers, hence the deadline for orders is next Thursday. If your child prefers to have a pack lunch that day, they will sit alongside their friends, staff and guests regardless of their meal. Lunches can be booked via wisepay.
