Notices and Reminders

''Always give thanks for everything to God the Father" Ephesians 5.20

This week at Thomas Coram
It is truly starting to feel like autumn now with all the changing and falling leaves, we are very fortunate at TC to be able to witness this so beautifully. It has been another busy week here at TC. I was fortunate enough to go into Year 6 and look at their English work, The Night of the Gargoyles. I was amazed at the fantastic sentences the children were using and how focused and motivated they were. I also was lucky enough to listen to a Year 3 Maths lessons and was impressed by how engaged they were. I was transported back in time in Year 5, to The Vikings and I was really impressed with the sketching that they were doing. On Monday, we will be celebrating Black History Month, with a whole day focusing on influential and important black people and how what they have done, has shaped our lives. I am really looking forward to this as I think it will be an exciting day for the children. I am very much wanting to include diversity more within our curriculum and I am currently looking at our books across the school to ensure we have a range of diverse authors.

Worship
On Monday, we had a celebration worship giving out the stars of the week from the previous week and giving out House Point certificates. On Wednesday, our worship was led by Chloe and the children started to think about our next value of responsibility. On Friday, 6WT led our worship and looked at being responsible for your actions. I was thoroughly impressed with the message of the worship and thought the children were fantastic.

Reminders
As the weather is getting cold and more unpredictable now, please do ensure the children are bringing a coat and jumper to school each day. Please also remember to label your child’s uniform, even just with a biro name on the label, this will then ensure it is able to be returned to your child.

Secondary Transfer
The deadline for applying for a secondary school place closes on Monday 31 October 2022. Any applications received after this date will be considered as late. We strongly recommend that you apply before the deadline or you may not get your first choice of school. Information can be found here.

Captain's club bookings
Bookings are now open and available.

Parents Evening
Parents Evening will be held after half term on Tuesday 1st November 5pm – 8pm and Thursday 3rd November 4-7pm. The online booking system will open at 7.00pm on Monday 17 October and will close at 10.00am on Thursday 20 October.

Cross Country
Thank you to all of you who have signed your children up for next Thursday's cross-country events. The form is now closed but there will be a further event in March.

Please can your children bring a spare pair of trainers if they are taking part. This is because the field gets very wet and we don't want the children in damp trainers when they are back in school. The children in Y3 and Y4 will take their morning snack with them, and all children will take their water bottle. Children should come to school in their PE kit, with their school jumper over the top and a pair of dark joggers or leggings - depending on the weather, a coat may be needed too. We will share some photos on the school PE Twitter page.

Dacorum Music School
DMS are hosting another Music String Day on Thursday 3 November 2022. If your child plays the Violin, Viola, Cello or Double Bass and is interested in taking part then please see here for further details.

Young Voices - Y5 only
Thank you for your responses to request Young Voices t-shirts sizes - please remember to give consent and make payment for your child to attend this event in Abor.

Dishwasher
If you have or may have in the next few months a working unwanted dishwasher we will gladly take it off your hands for our food tech room. Please contact the school office if you can  help.

Don't forget to buy your map for the Scarecrow Festival which is taking place over half term. Maps can be purchased here. Next Friday is Dress down and Doughnut day! Children can come in their own clothes for a donation to FOTC. In order to guarantee a doughnut please order one here by 10am on Wednesday 19 October.
Yesterday evening FOTC held their annual AGM. In order to raise money to provide extra opportunities for your children we need volunteers to help with both organising and running events. Sadly, if we do not get enough volunteers we will not be able to run all the exciting events we have planned. If you would like to get involved then please email the FOTC.
