Notices and Reminders

"God loves a cheerful giver.' 2 Corinthians 9.7

This week our whole school worships were led by Mrs Cutler with the Year 6 reflective leaders and Fr Joe. We have been reflecting on 'Giving as God gives' as this week's theme for the value of Generosity. We also welcomed Chloe, the new chaplain at Berkhamsted School on her first visit to Thomas Coram.

In Friday's worship, School Council led our Harvest worship. The generous contributions we received from our families are being donated to the HOPE foodbank organised by Kings Road Church. Thank you very much for your support.

Dacorum Young Artists competition
At the start of term we reported that Poppy R's artwork was judged 'Best in School' in the Dacorum Young Artists competition organised by Rotary. Last weekend, she attended the presentation, and her artwork was awarded second place in the overall competition. With over 14 schools taking part, this is a real achievement.

COVID update
NHS Test and Trace will speak to the family of any child who tests PCR positive. However, they will only get in contact with any close contact names that are given to them; schools are not being contacted by NHS Test and Trace. Please remember to advise the school if your child tests positive. We can then notify parents and carers and advise them to seek a PCR for their child. We have been asked to remind parents and carers that LFD tests are not be used on primary age children.

Please be aware that anyone who has previously received a positive COVID-19 PCR test result should not be re-tested within 90 days of that test unless they develop any new symptoms of COVID-19.

Keeping warm
With the weather becoming colder and wetter, please can we ask you to ensure that pupils have appropriate warm outerwear for break and lunchtimes, and outdoor PE lessons. We allow your child to wear a black/dark tracksuit if it is cold.

With the increased ventilation that we have put in place, we are conscious that the school buildings are cooler than usual at the moment. Whilst the wearing of school uniform/PE kit is still a requirement, children may wear additional layers underneath their uniform if they wish to.

Attendance is vitally important in ensuring the children make progress and we would like to congratulate pupils in 3NH (best class); Y4 (best year group); and Luther King (best house) for their excellent attendance during the month of September. Year 4 has the best attendance so far this academic year.

Census Day menu
Thursday 7 October is Census Day for schools. Herts Catering Ltd (HCL) is offering a Chef's Pizza Bar for lunch that day. Children will have the choice of a Ham or Margarita Pizza, with a choice of toppings, served with salad and chips. For dessert, the children can visit the Ice Cream Station and choose from a variety of fruit toppings to add to their vanilla ice cream. Veggie burgers and a special pudding will be available to those children with allergens.

The following changes have also been made to next week's published menu. On Monday, the Green option is Tomato pasta bake instead of vegetarian meatballs. Friday's lunch will be sausages or sweet potato slice.

Parent Forum
Thank you to those parents and carers who have expressed an interest in participating in the Parent Forum. If there are any parents/carers from 3SB, 4KD, 6RM or 6WT who could represent those classes, please contact Mrs Cutler via the school office.

Lost Property
There are a number of unnamed school jumpers at the school office; similarly a collection of unnamed Tupperware pots from snacks are sat outside Mrs Giles' classroom. Please can we ask that both uniform and equipment (including lunch and snack boxes) are named so that they can be easily returned to the children.

Art Competition

This year, we are asking the children to think about nature all around them to produce a piece of artwork which captures the colour of  nature. The competition is open to all primary school children in Hertfordshire and is being judged by local artist, Val Cansick.

Entries must be A4 size and can use any medium. Computer generated images are not permitted. All entries are to be handed to Mrs Bruguier by Friday 5 November. Let's get a winner!

Secondary Transfer
The application deadline is 31 October 2021. Please make sure you have applied by this date or your application will be considered late and you may not get your first choice of school. All the information you need is available at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/admissions.

Berkhamsted Rotary are delighted to be running a covid safe fireworks display this year at the cricket club on Saturday 6 November. Tickets can be bought from the school office and if bought in advance cost £8 for an adult, £5 (under 16), free for under fives and £22 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children).
