Notices and Reminders

''Always give thanks for everything to God the Father" Ephesians 5.20

This week at Thomas Coram

I have had a rather exciting week at PGL with Year 6. The children have had a fantastic week with a Giant Swing, Survivor, Zip-Wiring and Camp Fire as some of their favourite activities. They were also really impressed by the food whilst they were away and that was one of their highlights each day. PGL is such a fantastic opportunity for the children to build independence, resilience and listening skills and I hope all of the children will come back having developed these skills this week and you will notice a difference. I wasn't around for the packing up of their bedrooms, so I do hope that everything returns with them! Thank you to Mrs Thomson, Mrs Munro, Mrs Winfrow, Mrs Wardle and Ms Rennie for accompanying the children with me. Back in school, the children have had a fantastic week writing limericks in Year 4, looking at Vikings in Year 5 and writing poems in Year 3. I know the children who remained in school from Year 6 have also had lots of fun too, with cupcakes being made today. I hope they were yummy.

Worship

This week I led Worship on Monday thinking about food and being thankful for the food that we are all so fortunate to have. We all said that we were guilty of sometimes throwing food away and we are going to try hard not to waste food. Wednesday's Collective Worship was led by Father Stuart and the children learnt a brilliant new hymn 'Be Bold, Be Strong'.

Harvest Collection

On the note of being thankful for the food we have, we are once again collecting for DENS. Please see the list of required items here and bring these into school by Friday 7 October so we can celebrate our generosity in Worship.

Open Morning

We will be holding two open mornings in November to encourage parents with Year 2 children to apply for Thomas Coram as their Year 3 school in September 2023. I will do a short talk to the parents and then there will be a tour of the school. Please pass this on to any parents who you may know who have children in Year 2.

After School Clubs

Earlier this week we released booking information about Miss Minter's after school clubs for Autumn 2. On Monday 10 October at 7pm, bookings for Captain's Club will open and you will be able to book after school places for Autumn 2 (November and December).

The online application system has opened for parents and carers of children in Year 6 to apply for a secondary school place for entry in September 2023. All Year 6 parents and carers were sent a copy of the 'Moving on 2022' leaflet this week. The application deadline is 31 October 2022. All the information you need is available at Hertfordshire Secondary School Admissions. Ashlyns School are holding an Opening Evening on Thursday 6 October and further information can be found here

Friends of Thomas Coram

We have noticed that there is a clash with the FOTC AGM and the Ashlyns open evening. We have rescheduled the AGM to take place at 7pm on Thursday 13 October. It is really important to me that The Friends' meetings are well attended. I have some great plans for the school year which we would love to share with you and these will not be possible to put into action if support for the committee is low. If you would like to help improve our school, but find evening meetings tricky, please let the Friends know as we can arrange for some meetings to take place during the day.

Scarecrow Festival

It is not too late to sign up to be a 'Scarecrow Creator' for the upcoming Scarecrow Festival. It is going to be a great activity for the whole family and we would like some more scarecrows! You can sign up here.

Slip into Slippers

On Friday 07 October we will be raising money for AGE UK by supporting their 'Slip into slippers' campaign. The children are welcome to bring a pair of slippers in to wear around the school during the day. We would like to ask for a donations for £1, which will go directly to Age UK.

Young Leaders Award

Some of our pupils (Last years' Year 5) got a shout out this week in the Berkhamsted Town Council Newsletter for their work towards their Young Leaders Award. You can read about it here on page 4.
