Notices and Reminders

'A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need' Proverbs 17.17.

In our whole school worships this week, we have been reflecting on how we value special places. On Monday, Mrs Cutler and the reflective leaders shared a retelling of Jesus in the temple. On Wednesday, Father Joe explored with the children why St Peters is a special place.

This week in school
At the end of last week, Year 5 children were awarded their certificates for completing the Archbishop of York's Young Leaders Award. The children gave a presentation to parents and carers about the project they had undertaken to improve the local environment. This included writing letters to Berkhamsted Town Council and producing colourful displays made out of recycled materials to brighten up the inside of our school. Following the presentation, the children camped overnight on the school field, as their Year 4 residential was cancelled last year because of the pandemic.

On Tuesday, we held our first music recital since the summer term 2019 for parents and carers. 38 children took part performing a range of classical and contemporary pieces on the piano, guitar, drums, violin as well as singing. It was wonderful to see how the children have progressed with their lessons and to see their confidence playing in front of an audience.

Wednesday afternoon saw a combined Year 5/6 team represent the school at the Dacorum District Athletics competition at Jarman Park. They competed against over 15 schools and earned a well-deserved fifth place.

The transition process began this week with a sports morning on the school field for Year 2 children from Swing Gate Infant and Nursery school and Victoria Infant and Nursery school. The children also spent Thursday at our school meeting the team of Year 3 teachers, whilst the Year 6  children spent the day at Ashlyns. All the other year groups also spent the day with their new teachers.

We ended the week with our annual sports day, where the children were competing in their houses to earn the Sports Day trophy. They took part in House teams, completing a circuit of activities before doing the more traditional running races took place. Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended; there were over 300 of you!
