Notices and Reminders

'A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need' Proverbs 17.17.

Worship
We begin our final half term reflecting on one of our core values: Respect. We have been thinking about what respect means and how we can show respect. These are some of the views that we shared in Mrs Cutler's worship on Monday: a readiness to listen; everyone being valued; expressing opinions sensitively; caring for our environment and treating property carefully. Chloe led worship on Wednesday, and we explored the meaning of Pentecost, whilst 5DH led our Friday worship, focusing on the power of prayer.

This week in school
8 Year 5 pupils represented the school in an Ultimate Frisbee competition at Longdean School on Wednesday. It was the first time many of the children had thrown a Frisbee as it is not part of our PE curriculum. The  children won 5 of their 8 matches and came an impressive 4th out of 10 teams.

On Thursday, Year 3 pupils had a visit to Whipsnade Zoo. Particular highlights were the Birds of Prey show; the butterfly house, where butterflies landed on the children, and close-up encounters with the muntjac deer. They also enjoyed seeing the penguins, baby rhino, bears, tigers, red pandas, elephants and the baby wallaby in its mother's pouch.

On Friday we celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee by wearing red, white and blue to school. In the afternoon, four trees were planted on our school field to commemorate the occasion. As part of the ceremony, Ella and Harry (our Head Girl and Head Boy) read a passage before the trees were blessed by Father Stuart. A big thank you to Mrs Fasher for organising the trees. A competition was organised for the best dressed crown and was won by Lainey in 4KD.

Year 6 Trip September 2022
The deadline for confirming your child's place for the Year 6 trip to PGL Liddington in September 2022 is Friday 17 June. If your confirmation has not been received by this date, your child will not be able to go. Please find the letter with details of the trip which was sent in May here. Please contact the office if you have queries or questions.

Young Leaders
Our Year 5 pupils have been busy improving the school environment as part of their project for the Archbishop of York's Young Leaders Award. The reflective garden has been weeded (a very big thank you to the Year 5 parent who helped with this) and hanging mobiles produced; colourful drawings, butterflies and yarn bombing flowers and bunting are now hanging in the dining room and main entrance.

My experience of the Platinum Jubilee - Art competition
The Lieutenancy of Hertfordshire Platinum Jubilee art competition is now open to all Key Stage 2 pupils in Hertfordshire (maximum of 10 per school). It should portray a favourite memory of the Platinum Jubilee event attended or seen by the young person and should not be an illustration of Her Majesty the Queen. Please can you get your entries to Mrs Bruguier by Wednesday 15 June so we have time to post them off. Further information about the competition can be found here.

Wrap around care
There are now spaces on most Wednesdays for wrap around care after school. You can book your child in the usual way via Arbor. If the Wednesday you want is not an option it is full already.

BerkoFest Children's Book Festival
BerkoFest Children's Book Festival returns in partnership with Chorleywood Bookshop on Saturday 18 June 2022, with a fantastic line-up of children's authors. From picture books to thrilling middle-grade novels, there will be something for all children to enjoy, along with other book-themed activities and inter-active workshops and refreshments.  A full programme will be published shortly at www.berkofest.com. Tickets are £8 in advance or £12 on the day plus a booking fee (grown-ups and under 3s are free). Tickets give you entry for the whole day and to all the activities taking place.

Stars of the week

3NH - All of 3NH - for being absolute superstars on the trip to Whipsnade. They were respectful to the animals and other people at the zoo and we had a great day!

3SB - Rosa K - for her excitement and enjoyment shown throughout the trip to Whipsnade. Mrs Bruguier was so pleased to see her enjoying everything. Despite being afraid of heights and the goats, she went onto the canopy and fed the goats.

3SG - All of 3SG - Mrs Giles was so pleased with how the whole class behaved at Whipsnade Zoo; the whole class demonstrated all the school values and it was a pleasure to be with them in a different environment for a day.

4AP - Harry for showing great focus in lesson this week.

4KD - Hamid- for his determination to read and write English independently.

4RD - Seve - for his fantastic work on multiplication and division this week

4RD - Riley - for his fantastic effort at the sports event before half term. Riley took part in every activity and tried his best with all of them. Miss Minter was super impressed.
