Notices and Reminders

"Encourage one another and build each other up." 1 Thessalonians 5.11

Worship
This week our whole school worships have been led by Mrs Cutler and Father Joe. Continuing with our value of Friendship, we have been reflecting on how important it is to make time for one another.

This week in school
On Friday afternoon, we were visited by Willard Carter, a cellist who is currently studying in Madrid. Accompanied by Daniel King Smith, Willard played a range of pieces of children, including short excerpts from Stravinsky and Haydn. Willard is performing at St Peters on Sunday 15 May;

Our Year 6 pupils have been sitting the Key Stage 2 Statutory Assessment Tests in English and Mathematics this week. Before each test, staff prepared and served the children with a healthy breakfast. When the children were not taking tests, they took part in 'Beat the Boss', an enterprise activity which required the Year 6s to work in groups and devise a new flavour of ice cream. The staff are extremely proud of the way in which the children conducted themselves throughout the week and for their hard work leading up to the tests.

The Year 4 pupils were all back in school this week, following their residential trip to Cuffley Camp. The staff were very impressed with their resilience and team working skills. These were demonstrated in many of the challenges including 'Buggy Build'; Nightline; Problem solving and Team Challenge.

Dacorum Young Artists
We were delighted to hear that Josh in Year 5 was awarded 'Best in School' in the Dacorum Young Artists competition run by Rotary. Josh was commended for his artistic merit and for this interpretation of the theme 'What should your world look like in 2050?'. The award ceremony is being held this weekend at Ashlyns, where all the entries are being exhibited.

Sports Events
Game On recently held a football festival at Dundale School for Years 3 & 4. Teams from Brookmead, Dundale, Thomas Coram, St. Mary's, Bishop Wood and Wingrave School took part in a series of friendly games. Each team played the games in great spirit and the standard was very high. Congratulations to Alfie and Evren who were 'Players of the Festival'.

A selection of Year 5 and 6 children were also chosen to represent Thomas Coram in a football league. They all showed brilliant determination and skill and due to this, we have progressed through the league; we won our semi-final and will be playing our final on Tuesday 17 May.

Book Fair
Don't forget the travelling book fair is coming to the library from Monday! There are over 200 titles for you and your child to choose from and with prices starting at only £2.99, there is sure to be a book for everyone. The book fair will be open every lunchtime for children to browse and buy. We will also be open after school on Tuesday-Friday until 4pm. Payment can be in cash or online using a QR code that will be up in the library in the afternoons. Any cash should be in a named envelope  and given to your child's class teacher at morning registration for safe keeping. If you can't make our Book Fair gift vouchers are available at www.travellingbooks.co.uk/parent. They are a great way to make sure your child doesn't miss out. Don't forget that every book you buy can help get free books for our school library.

Help for Ukrainian Refugees when they need it most
With growing numbers of refugees leaving Ukraine for the UK, and the visa process showing no sign of speeding up, hosts are increasingly using their own money to support their guests until they arrive.  The Berkhamsted and Tring Ukrainian Host Group has found homes for over 75 people in their local community, but now we need your help. With the money you give we can:

  • pay for temporary accommodation until visas are approved. Refugee centres are overwhelmed, and conditions are far from ideal.
  • buy essentials for new arrivals, including school equipment, toys, clothes and books
  • pay travel costs for those needing to get to the UK

There are no admin costs or overheads. 100% of your donation will go to where it is most  needed. If you would like more information please don't hesitate to get in touch. Please do click on the link to read more about the group and to find out how to donate. Thank you in advance for your kind donation.
