Notices and Reminders

To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

This week at Thomas Coram
We have had a busy first week back at TC. Year 6 started the week with their History WOW day and learnt all about WW2, in worship on Monday they told us they had made pies and fudge, I hope they tasted good Year 6! Year 5 have been busy looking at pencil cases ready for their DT project this term. Year 4 have been looking at poetry based around sweets and creating similes. Year 3 have been focusing on fractions and creating class fraction flowers. All of the children have come back ready to learn and looking forward to this half term. We also had parents evening this week, which I hope was useful and insightful giving you the opportunity to look through your child’s books and see what they have been learning.

Worship
On Monday, we started to look at our new value of justice and what justice means. We shared Lego blocks out and I had anticipated it wouldn’t be easy, but Dexter in Year 6, did a fantastic job of ensuring it was an equal share. Our worship was based around how we can make things equal. On Wednesday, Chloe led worship around our value of justice and the fact that sometimes things can seem unfair. On Thursday, Mrs Giles led signing assembly and was focusing on disco songs. I heard Year 6 were fantastic and really demonstrated excellent dance moves!

Strike Action
All classes will be in school on Wednesday 1 March. If alternative provision is being provided, you will have received a separate email.

School Council
Below are the members of the school council proudly displaying the new banner which can be seen outside of school. This is to encourage visitors to the school to turn off engines when they are parked. Their latest newsletter was sent out earlier this week and can be found here.

World Book Day
World Book Day is next Thursday (2 March), the children are asked to come in as their favourite book cover – this could be a billboard style piece of card attached to them, a piece of paper stuck to their tops etc. They should not come in dressed as a character. Can children also, please bring in, their favourite book and some cardboard as they will be making some things on Thursday.

Herts Catering Limited are also doing a special menu please options for this can be found here: World Book Day themed lunch.

Parents Evening
It was so lovely to see so many families at parents evening this week, however, we did have quite a large number of parents who did not make a booking. It is really important that you attend the parents' evenings so that your child’s class teacher can discuss your child’s progress.

PE - Extra shoes needed
All pupils will need a second pair of shoes in school on their PE days as PE will be taking place outside on the field until the end of the Spring term.

Uniform
A reminder that children should be wearing black school shoes to school and not Ugg style boots.

Raising money
A few Year 5 girls, have come to me wanting to raise money for Turkey and Syria after the earthquake and for the RSPCA, we are in talks on how to combine this and what we can do in school. I will add a further note next week once I have spoken to the girls again. I think it is great that the children are taking ownership and presenting me with ideas. Well done!

School site
Recent Ofsted inspections have focused heavily on safeguarding, if you need to come onto the school site, please do so via the school office (if it is not a drop off or pick up time) as we cannot have parents walking through the building unless they are accompanied by staff. Can I also please request, that when on school premises appropriate language is used and that you are courteous towards staff members.

Bridgewater Cross Country
We are looking forward to seeing lots of children at the annual Bridgewater School Cross Country on Saturday 11th March. Below are the race times. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before their event - all children must be accompanied by an adult for their time there and can leave immediately after.

Mrs Thomson, Miss Minter and Mrs Griffiths will be at the finish line to collect in the place cards the children will be handed. Please can children wear their school PE top as their top later, with layers underneath if needed.
