Notices and Reminders

'" Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you  wherever you go" Joshua 1.9

This week our whole school worship was led by Mrs Cutler and the Year 6 Reflective Leaders. Our value for this half term is Courage: on Friday, we explored - with the help of the Reflective Leaders - what courage means: facing danger and opposition, overcoming fear, making a stand for what is right and encouraging others to persevere. Mrs Cutler used the story of Moses and the burning bush to show stepping out of our comfort zone is not always an easy option.

Learning in school
On Thursday (the first day back), our Year 4 children were visited by the Doodle Bug for a maths and art cross curricular workshop. Using the character of Gromit, the children were shown how to reproduce this engaging cartoon character, focusing on observational and listening skills. Symmetry, spatial awareness and proportion were also explored with the children and staff. The visit ended with a motivational talk for the children on how the skills they had used could transfer to other areas of their lives. The topics covered 'Practice, Preparation, Try your best, Believe in yourself and Making Mistakes.' Feedback from the Doodle Bug was the children showed 'excellent resilience levels and focus which were reflected in the pupils' amazing pictures.' The children were also praised for their excellent manners and behaviour and the staff for their enthusiasm.

Extra-Curricular clubs
Due to staff absence, Miss Minter's lunchtime and after school clubs will not run Mon-Wed next week. Your child should be collected as normal if they have signed up for Basketball (Monday), Dodgeball (Tuesday) or Team Games (Wednesday).

Covid update
We'd like to thank parents and carers who were able to use LFD tests with their children prior to returning to school. Since the letter was sent out on Wednesday 5 January, the Government guidelines have been changed. Confirmatory PCR tests following a positive lateral flow device (LFD) test result are to be temporarily suspended from Tuesday 11 January. This will mean anyone who receives a positive LFD test result will be required to self-isolate immediately and will not be required to take a confirmatory PCR test.

We are taking additional measures in school this term including a one-way system in and out of the dining room, and whole school worships have been limited to two year groups at a time, with the other two year groups having worship live streamed into their classrooms. The CO2 monitors provided by the DfE are being used to improve ventilation.

With the very cold weather experienced on the first day back, please remember that the children can wear additional layers underneath their uniform if they wish to.

Message from Herts Catering Ltd
Just like many schools and other businesses, school catering providers are facing huge logistical problems as a result of the Omicron Covid Variant. Hertfordshire Catering Limited (HCL) is doing its best to mange the situation but is experiencing short notice staff absences due to Covid as well as potential  delivery issues. This makes planning extremely difficult from one hour to the next and may impact on the meal service.

Where possible we will advise parents in advance of any planned meal changes.

Christmas Tree Collection
A reminder that your Christmas tree can be collected and recycled for you by the local scout groups on Sunday 9 January. You can either register online at www.1stberkhamsted.org.uk/trees or visit their market stall this Saturday 8 January on Berkhamsted High Street.

Dinner money payments
Please check your child's lunch account and make sure they are up to date and in credit as there are a number of accounts in debt. If you are experiencing financial difficulties then please contact the school office.
