Notices and Reminders
"Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.' Colossians 3:12
This week, our whole school worships have been led by Mrs Cutler with the Year 6 reflective leaders, Chloe and 6RM. Mrs Cutler used the story of the Good Samaritan to help us think about who our neighbours are. Chloe reminded us that it is important to treat other people the way you would like to be treated yourself; in this way we are showing our love for God. She also reminded us that people with disabilities should be treated in the same way.
This week in School
The school held its first Open Morning on Tuesday (following COVID guidance). Small groups of prospective parents were shown round the school site and met with Mrs Cutler to learn about the school's vision and values; how children are supported in the transition to Thomas Coram and our curriculum.
Our Year 3 classes all walked down to Berkhamsted High Street this week as part of their geography learning about land use in the local area. They practised being cartographers, drawing a map of the route they took and added in key landmarks such as churches, schools, shops and other local amenities.
Fourteen Year 6 pupils have been trained to be reading buddies to support younger children in their school. This week, the 'big buddies' met their 'little buddies' for their first shared reading session.
Acts of Kindness
It is always lovely to hear how our pupils live out the Christian values of the school. Lola in Year 3 has shown great compassion by putting the needs of others before herself. She recently had a birthday disco. Instead of receiving gifts, she asked her friends to contribute to the charity of her choice, Smile Train. Almost 50 children from Year 3 took part between them, they raised £200 together!
Support group for parents of neurodiverse children
A new parent support group has been set up in Berkhamsted for children who are on the Autistic Spectrum. The group is reaching out to those parents/guardians/carers who may need a safe space to discuss and listen to others about their experiences.
The group will be run by parents, for parents, with the aim of sharing stories, experiences, and ideas. It can be very lonely and isolating for those parents with neurodivergent children. The aim is to offer support for one another and a new community. The first meeting is on Thursday 9 December 2021, 7- 8.30pm (and every 2nd Tuesday or Thursday of the month from the new year - TBC) at the Open Door, Berkhamsteds@opendoorberko. If you would like further information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Age Restrictions Social Media Platforms
We would like to remind parents and carers of the age restrictions for social media. As you can see from the chart here. The only social media platforms that children under the age of 13 should access with parental consent are Roblox, Popjam and Facetime.
FOTC Christmas Fairs start next Tuesday with Year 3. It is not to late to buy your ticket and details of the fairs and all the events being held by FOTC can be found here.
Stars of the week
