Notices and Reminders
'"My God is my strength in whom I trust" Psalm 18.2
This week we have celebrated the beginning of Advent, with our theme 'Believing God has a plan for the rest of our lives.' Our whole school worships have been led by Mr Halls, Fr Joe and 5JR and have focused on preparing for Christmas, using the symbol of the Advent Wreath.
Mr Halls retold the story of Angel Gabriel's visit to Mary, using the picture of The Annunciation by Fra Angelico, reminding us that God uses the ordinary and makes it extraordinary.
Following last week's RE day, we have produced a video on our YouTube channel to share the work that the children produced. Follow this link to find out more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZeheeGKs5o
Over the past term, each class in their PE lessons participated in virtual sports competitions with the Dacorum School Sports Network (DSSN). The participation rate for the whole school has been 100%, which is a fantastic reflection on the children's enjoyment of PE. All children took part in cross country; Year 6 participated in football and netball skills; Year 5 pupils took part in the Olympics, football and netball skills; Year 4 pupils took part in the Olympics and Tri-Golf; and Year 3 pupils took part in the Olympics. Further results will be shared after Christmas once we have received them from DSSN.
Attendance is vitally important in ensuring the children make progress and we would like to congratulate pupils in 6SW (best class); Y4 (best year group); and Mandela (best house) for their excellent attendance during the month of November. Year 3 has the best attendance so far this academic year.
As the weather is becoming colder, please can we ask you to ensure that pupils have appropriate warm outerwear for break times and outdoor PE lessons. Additional layers may be worn underneath your child's school uniform for inside the classroom.
Swing Gate Lane congestion
Over the past few days, with the wet weather, there has been increased congestion at the top of Swing Gate Lane. As stated in Mrs Cutler's letter to parents and carers in September, we understand that parents and carers sometimes need to drive their children to school but can we remind you of the need to be considerate of other road users and park safely in the roads around the locality of the school to avoid blocking access to the school.
One of our core values at Thomas Coram is respect. We would like to ask that parents/carers are respectful towards all members of the Thomas Coram family.
Winter mini challenge
This is a winter version of the summer reading challenge in virtual form. The theme is Everyone is a Hero. There is a free-to-access website featuring rewards and incentives for reading and reviewing books. To take part children simply read three or more books - these can be any books of their choice. Every time they finish a book, they add it to their challenge website profile and leave a short book review. Here is a suggested reading list. The mini challenge website will also feature a host of fun activities, videos and reading recommendations, plus an exciting competition. Click here for further details.
Young Photographer of the Year
Berkhamsted Rotary are launching a 'free to enter', Dacorum wide, Young Photographer competition for young people between the ages of 7 and 17. There are three entry categories based on age, prizes of £100 and an engraved plate will be awarded to each category winner. The winners will be entered into a District (Herts/Beds/Bucks) competition and if winners again will go onto the Rotary National final. This year's entries must be digital but you do not need a clever camera to enter, mobile phones and tablets will work too. Rotary have run this popular competition for many years, it is a lot of fun so why not join in? A poster is attached but you can get entry information by going straight to http://www.berkorotary.org/.

St Peter's 800th birthday
In 2022 it will the 800th birthday of our school church, St Peter's! The church is starting to plan some activity and would love to hear your views on the following:
- Do you have any ideas for revitalising the church yard area around the church to encourage more visits from children/families? Things like more seating, wildlife area, flowers etc
- We are looking to hold a St Peter's festival in Summer of 2022? What events would you like to see at this? Would you like to put on any events yourself? (Ideas could include dawn yoga sessions, music events, craft activities, dog shows, picnics?) We'd love to hear your ideas!
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your thoughts. Thank you!
